Andrea holds a PhD from the department of Medical Genetics at Cambridge University. Consequently, her patent practice is heavily focused on genetics and in particular genetically modified organisms where Andrea has obtained patent protection for many commercially important traits for her clients, that include both well-known Agritech research institutes as well as start-ups. Andrea also regularly advises on obtaining plan variety rights both in the UK and internationally.

 

Claire Keating

Claire is the Cambridge Office’s Trade Mark specialist. Her practice covers a wide spread of sectors including MedTech, biotech and pharma, food and drink, apparel, retail, financial services and manufacturing, and she has extensive experience in Trade Mark clearance searches, strategic planning of international Trade Mark filing projects, as well as enforcement and related negotiations.

 

Emma Foster
Principal

Emma handles the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide in a range of chemical fields, including polymers, catalysts, battery materials, oil & gas technology, pharmaceuticals, nutritional formulations and sustainable packaging. During her time at Marks & Clerk, Emma has undertaken several secondments, including one to a University of Cambridge spin-out company, meaning she is able to provide clients with a rare perspective which is the result of working in a private practice role and also in-house. Emma joined Marks & Clerk after completing a DPhil in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford.

 

George Christian
Associate
Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney

George is a UK and European patent attorney with experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications relating to technologies including semiconductor devices, sensors, opto-electronics, software, medical devices, telecommunications, and mechanical devices. Before joining Marks & Clerk as a trainee patent attorney in 2019, George completed a PhD in Photon Physics at the University of Manchester where he studied the optical properties of semiconductor quantum well structures for energy efficient lighting applications. George became an Associate at Marks & Clerk in 2023.
